American Aquarium Fishes (W.L. Moody, Jr., Natural History Series, No 28)
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (September, 2000)
Authors: Robert J. Goldstein, Rodney W. Harper, and Richard Edwards
Average review score:

The depth and detail and the vivid photos are impressive
This comprehensive reference volume will appeal to both specialty and general-interest libraries: American Aquarium Fishes provides over 118 color and over 200 black and white photos of various species of aquarium fish, providing detailed discussions on where to find native fishes, how to collect and transport them around the globe, and regional rules of collecting. The depth and detail and the vivid photos are impressive.

The best reference to date!
It's about time that a talented group of aquarium hobbyist (who are also biologists I believe) got together to write a book that the layman can understand and appreciate. You will not find convuluted passages common in the scientific literature. Each species account is well written and contains the information that the hobbyist wants.

Goldstein, Harper, and Edwards are well known hobbyist and if there are any real experts in the field, it's these guys.

This is an all around great reference for the North American native fish hobbyist.

Art of Practical Spirituality: How to Bring More Passion, Creativity, and Balance into Everyday Life
Published in Audio Cassette by Summit University Press (May, 2002)
Authors: Elizabeth Clare Prophet, Patricia R. Spadaro, and Kirsten Moody
Average review score:

Book rings true
"The Art of Practical Spirituality" is a great mix of ancient and modern spiritual teachings. I found that, as some books just have one or two really practical ideas, this book has it all in one! Most of us these days live busy lives with work, study and family, but we're looking for a bit more in life, a way to live in harmony with themselves, their world and Spirit. Or maybe, like me, you're just someone who believes that life really isn't lived to its fullest until you've explored the spiritual dimensions too. One of the chapters talked about living in the present - i thought i did till i read this! Just to give an example of the common threads-I found links to buddhist and christian traditions when I read this chapter. This book brings them all together plus a bit more. Another chapter that I really enjoyed was 'let your spiritual self do the work' - hey, that is just what i need! And perhaps the best thing of all about this book is its simple, practical and a really convenient size! Enjoy!

Prompt to Action
The title is well suited for this book. I found that the content inspired me to action with ideas that I had not previously considered. I beleive that any spiritually oriented material which provides easy to understand and practical ideas to promote healthy spiritual growth is well worth the time and money spent. This is a short book and one in which I intend to pass along to friends and family. It is also good to keep handy and refer back to and refresh ones perspectives and approach to spiritual growth activities.

I also enjoyed the quotes from the writings and sayings of spiritual saints, mystics, etc, as well as exerpts from ancient writings like the Bible. This gave the book a more "global" and "enternal" feel, a feeling that no one is left out regardless of their religion. It does require an "open mind" if you are already "set" in one spiritual tradition. Read and enjoy! And God bless your spiritual journey.

Beyond the Threshold of a Dream (A Journey into the Music of Justin Hayward)

Author: Helen Lindhout

Say it with Love
Bask in the spirit-filled warmth of poetic spiritual vistas, turn the page unto another full-sized beautiful, original color illustration by the delightfully creative author Helen Lindhout. This is a special journey for the heart and spirit, showcasing the deeper meaning contained within the realm of Moody Blues songs which many music listeners never realized they created. Most only know them by some of their more popular radio hits "Tuesday Afternoon" or "Nights in White Satin" - but listen to their landmark "In Search of the Lost Chord" album and you'll realize they were at the forefront of the inner exploration movement of the 1960's. Band Member Justin Hayward was an important element in that creative quintet. Ms. Lindhout is to be commended for taking their imaginative, inspiring, insightful lyrics and creating fantastic poetic extensions and artistic imagery to further the enlightening musical odysseys by one of the foremost bands that have survived across several decades.

The Journey through a Threshold of a Dream
I found this book to be very insightful and poetic. It has beautiful illustrations and is written with Justin Hayward (my favorite musician) in mind. This book takes you on a journey of moral values and thoughtful decision making. I found myself carried away into the poetic world of trials and tribulations. At the end of this book, I found myself being very inspired and caught in a whirlwind of emotions that made me want to read it all over again. I loved this book because it is so whimsical and thought provoking. It took me through a journey through the threshold of my own dreams.

Born Crucified (Moody Classic Series)
Published in Paperback by Moody Publishers (October, 1984)
Author: L. E. Maxwell
Average review score:

Refreshing
In this book Maxwell focuses on one of the most incredible aspects of the Christian walk--our life in Christ. Maxwell illustrates well our new life as found through our partnership in Christ's death and resurrection. The truth in this book is refreshing to any believer who wants to better understand how to walk and live in new freedom.

Breathtaking challenge to the true believer!
This book is rare indeed, for it offers the same challenge our Lord did: "If anyone would be my disciple he will deny himself, take up his cross DAILY and follow Me". I recommend this book only to those who have truly passed through the narrow gate and seek Life.

Conversations with God: Book 2, Volume 3

This book totally changed my life & has all the answers!
There are many people out there that want answers and are not finding them in their church. Many believe that God wants us to worship him every single day and live in our churches. I know of someone that is neglecting their family because the people of the church are his family now!

Confirms all I've "re-membered" in 62 years.
This book opened my life. I recognized Who had been talking to me all these years. I had thought it was the wind, the clouds, the rain, my imagination. And it was. I knew all along and it made me cry. On my seventh reading now I still cry, and of course, smile. I will read this book forever. Thank God Mr. Walsch wrote it down so I don't have to.

God, If You Have a Plan for My Life, Where Were You Last Thursday?
Published in Paperback by Broadman & Holman Publishers (April, 2001)
Author: Jess Moody
Average review score:

Get reintroduced to your own heart.
Jess, you've done it again! In a world that causes us to develop calloused veneers to hide our hearts behind, you have offered a medicine chest of little "daily pills" that we can easily take, anytime of day or night, and dissolve away the contaminates and refresh the pliableness that brings back the joy and tears of our emotions. In "God, if you have a plan for my life..." we see the very heart of Christ Himself, revealed through the lives of real people and told as only Jess Moody can tell their stories. Jess, may you live long and write often.

Gifted Storyteller rings up five stars
Jess Moody, like the Energizer Bunny, just keeps going and going, telling great stories. I have been privileged to hear Jess Moody speak. He is not simply a preacher; he is an orator. His oratorical skills and artistry are transmitted to the pages of a book through the writing of "God, If You Have A Plan For My Life, Where Were You Last Thursday?" He paints beautiful stories with the pen. Some of the stories will bring a tear to the reader's eye or a lump in the throat, others will evoke a smile or a burst of laughter. Whatever the response, the reader will become so engrossed in the stories that reading the book will not leave one unaffected or unchanged. Each story is only a brief page or two and can be read in bits and pieces over days. However, I became so enchanted by each story, I couldn't wait a day or two to read on. I nearly finihed the book in one sitting. I've read other books by Jess Moody. This one is his best!

The Home Ranch
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (March, 1994)
Authors: Ralph Moody, Tran Mawicke, and Edward Shenton
Average review score:

About as real as you can get today
I grew up in the desert of southern Arizona in the 50's and 60's. Surrounded by real cattle and real cowboys. This book rings true. I loved it as a kid. No gun fights, no bar room fights. Ralph paints a soft, rich picture, that is much more accurate then any movie you ever saw. I have purchased several copies to give to REAL good friends.

Business Today, Wrapped in the American West of Yesterday
The Home Ranch is more then a slice of the American West. It's a great slice of business management tucked in the recollections of Ralph Moody's summer on the Batchlett home ranch in 1910. Located near Colorado Springs, the home ranch is a metaphor for today's office. Batchlett sums up every business management theory written when he tells Moody during a trading trip, "You play the hand you draw." And Batchlett's hand is an array of characters that I see in the office everyday. People like, Zeb, quiet and smart, but who doesn't like to be out of sight of Pike's Peak. Hank, a boastrous old cowhand who's always telling everyone how it should be done but not doing any of it. Sid, the fiesty redhead with a fondness for "Jenny Wren", and Trinidad, the arrogant, rhinestone cowboy with the cowards heart. Mix in a manipulative 12 year old girl and a boy who sets his heart on turning a wild stallion into a good cowhorse and you got a recipe for today's workforce.

Stick it next to Covey, Petersen, and Drucker. But don't be suprised if you use it more often then any of them.

Horse of a Different Color: Reminiscences of a Kansas Drover
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (September, 1994)
Author: Ralph Moody
Average review score:

Ralph Moody
When I was a child I read Little Britches, Man of The Family, and Horse of a Different Color. These books/stories are timeless. Any parent who wants to give a good example to a child about resposibility should obtain these.

Vivid history in a home-spun style that leaves you smiling.
Ralph Moody again weaves an artful picture of true life in the real world of the early twentieth century. His easy going style and colorful portrayal of each character give a real livng account of day to day life with a constant optimism that many of us miss in our cynical world. A great read aloud family book aong with the rest in the series. Moody gives character qualities that are rarely found in the novels of today and are much needed especially for todays young men.

Put this one on your 10 - 14 year old's reading list but don't forget to read it along with them.
